Actions under this strategy
- 2-1 By 2030, reduce food waste 50% (from 2019) by piloting and implementing food waste reduction best practices, household education campaigns, and technology in partnership with commercial food retailers, distributors, and manufacturers.
- 2-2 By 2026 and annually afterwards, educate 100% of Commercial Edible Food Generators (CEFGs) of their obligation to donate excess edible food, inspect 100% of newly identified CEFGs, and reinspect at least 15% of existing CEFGs, in alignment with California's State Bill 1383 and Chapter 32 Mandatory Edible Food Recovery.
- 2-3 By 2026, launch a Sustainable Food Procurement dashboard featuring Laguna Honda, Zuckerberg SF General, and SFUSD to track progress implementing the Good Food Purchasing Program five core values (Carbon, Water, and Waste reduction, Local Economies, Community Health & Nutrition, Animal Welfare, and Valued Workforce).
- 2-4 By 2028, expand the Sustainable Food Procurement dashboard to include all City departments, community organizations, and commercial kitchens.
- 2-5 By 2028, working with community and City partners, conduct a landscape analysis of the food system in San Francisco that identifies opportunities to support all residents' equitable access to growing and purchasing healthy, affordable, climate-friendly food.
